Lin Asian Bar + Dim Sum, Qi Austin is a modern Chinese restaurant located in Austin on 6th Street in the Shoal Creek Building. It is one of Chef Ling’s restaurant that opened in the fall of 2023 and is open during lunch and dinner daily and offers dim sum brunch on the weekends. We were there for their brunch dim sum and we came hungry after working out an appetite at the gym.
The restaurant was easy to find considering it was located in a commercial high rise building. They offered free parking on the 4th level but in case you miss the building, there’s parking for Whole Foods Market right across the street and plenty of street parking. There were ample parking spaces but we kept driving up to the designated parking for the restaurant. As soon as we got off the elevator a toddler greeted us and ran straight towards the buttons. He was so cute, so innocent, and so curious, excited to push the elevator button. The grandparents were very apologetic as we were stepping out of the elevator but the toddler almost rode the elevator alone alone if not for his grandfather sticking his hand to stop the elevator from shutting just in time.
As soon as we stepped out of the elevator, there was a reception area with a few security guards on duty. Towards the left was the restaurant with a double glass door. As we entered, to our left was a wall display of expensive wine and to our right was a fully stocked bar displaying their colorful bottles of alcohol. We were greeted by a staff within seconds and we were escorted to our table. The exposed wood beams made the space airy and inviting with lit Chinese lanterns creating a dim ambiance. The kitchen was in the back with a glass wall filled with bamboo steamers agains the wall ready to be filled with dumplings ready to be steamed when an order is placed.
We ordered a combination of seafood and meat dumplings. The pacing of the delivery of the dumplings were perfectly timed from seafood to meat dumplings and ending with dessert. The dumplings were so delicious that I just wanted to keep ordering more.
Here is the list of dumplings we ordered:
- Lobster Dumpling
- Shrimp Dumpling
- Shanghai Seafood Soup Dumpling
- Steamed Chicken Dumpling
- Spare Ribs
- Steam pork and shrimp sui mai
- Potato Shrimp Dumpling
- Egg Custard
All of the dumplings were incredibly delicious but my favorites are the Shanghai Seafood Soup dumpling and the Potato Shrimp Dumpling. The Shanghai Seafood Soup was filled with the right amount of tastiest seafood broth to the meat ratio with the perfect al dente wrapper. The other memorial dumpling would be the potato shrimp dumpling for it’s crispy outer layer and juicy shrimp inside.
Overall, Qi is the perfect place when craving dim sum. Their dumplings have a modern take with locally sourced ingredients. The service was excellent and our server was very attentive. Zach and I came out hungry and came out happy with our bellies full.
